The proposal for the new Tu Chau Church comprised two interrelated objectives: the conservation and master planning of the historic wooden church complex, and the design of a new sanctuary capable of accommodating the contemporary growth of the parish.

The project's central question extended far beyond functional requirements. It asked how a new church might contribute to the renewal of Catholic liturgy and sacred architecture within a long-established religious community. Across Northern Vietnam, the widespread construction of churches in Colonial, Neo-Gothic, and Romanesque styles has become the dominant architectural tendency, even in regions with deeply rooted and traditionally conservative cultural identities. Within this context, the proposal represented not only the vision of an architect, but also the shared aspiration of local clergy seeking a contemporary architectural language capable of engaging with the questions of sacred art and theology in the present day.

Although the proposal was ultimately not selected for construction, it fulfilled its purpose by contributing to the ongoing discourse on contemporary sacred architecture. Today, it remains a valuable case study within the evolving conversation on church architecture in Northern Vietnam.
