MCV

Our first project was realised in the remote mountainous region of Northwest Vietnam, deep within the villages of local ethnic minority communities. The greatest challenge did not stem from limited financial resources, but rather from the availability of local construction capacity and the organisational conditions that had to be understood and incorporated into the design proposal from the outset. An architectural approach based on raw, low-tech materials, previously developed and successfully implemented in lowland communities with stronger financial and labour resources, was reinterpreted and applied within this different context.

The project's community-oriented ethos was once again expressed through the active participation of local residents in constructing their own shared space. Although the project revealed the need for further development of specialised craftsmanship in this type of rough-material construction, the community's positive reception of the architectural strategies demonstrated their adaptability across different cultural and geographical settings in Vietnam. This experience provides further evidence of the feasibility of extending and disseminating this approach to other local contexts.
