We returned to the historic cathedral at the heart of Hanoi. This time, the project occupies the site opposite hien01, accommodating a new pastoral centre and offices for the parish administration.
Several design proposals were developed, all based on the architectural principles established through the previous two projects. Ultimately, the new client—a younger and more progressive priest—chose to continue this direction. This did not mean repeating earlier ideas, however, as the project introduces a number of important refinements.
The programme is more complex, incorporating additional private spaces and a stronger, more articulated roof composition. These changes reinforce the building's architectural identity while preserving the spatial qualities that defined the earlier works. Although modest in scale, the project extends an ongoing body of work united by a consistent theme and design philosophy.
Within the context of contemporary religious architecture in northern Vietnam, and particularly within the Archdiocese of Hanoi, proposals such as this remain both progressive and courageous for the clergy and the architect alike. They stand against the widespread dominance of historicist imitation and conservative architectural attitudes. These may only be small first steps, but they represent a steady commitment to improving the depth and quality of architecture, believing that meaningful change is achieved through patient, continuous practice rather than immediate or widespread influence.
